Natacha Mercier

TEASER

30 June - 20 August 2022

“Natacha Mercier explores any format, from small sizes to monumental formats. The artist never ceases developing her pictorial technique and renewing her subjects, working in sequences and series, with a noticeable tendency for quotation, staging, subjects and motifs of the artwork.

After employing a wide range of colours, in particular white, to which the artist has devoted already a large number of paintings, Natacha Mercier is currently pursuing her approach in the colour black.

Obscurity, shadow and blackness are new areas of research  In her recent works. The landscape, the forest in particular, emerges in the midst of the blackness. In contrast to her white paintings, in which the figures are revealed in a certain evanescence of light, it is from the depths of the night that the images arise. The artist succeeds in materialising the dream of a nocturnal vision, of another invisible, mysterious world, that of the forest, the wilderness, the unknown. Through the black, Natacha Mercier continues her quest to show the intangible, which cannot be seen, cannot be given.

Her artistic approach sheds light on the history of art from a new angle and reflects openly and deeply on the existence and future of painting.”
